Properly prepare product images for social media platforms

Start with a shared original

The master asset should come from a reliable product source or creative library. Origin, product allocation and usage status are retained. A generated image must not implicitly add properties that the product does not possess.

Check sharpness, cropping, color and visible details. If the shot only shows part of the product, the caption cannot claim an invisible version. Variants are derived from this original and remain connected via an asset ID.

Select section according to usage situation

A 2:3 pin can show more vertical surroundings, while a 4:5 feed image centers the product more. 9:16 needs additional space for hook, subtitles and platform UI. A horizontal post can show product and context side by side.

Automatic center cropping only works if the product is already in the middle. When the composition is asymmetrical, important elements are cut off. The system should therefore save the focus point and safe area for each variant or offer manual correction.

Use text overlays sparingly and resiliently

The image must remain understandable even without long overlay text. Use a short statement, sufficient contrast and a font size that is readable at the width of a smartphone. The logo and CTA must not cover the product.

Price, discount and time-sensitive availability only come into the picture if the workflow can update them before publication. Otherwise, the accompanying text is easier to correct than a rendered asset.

Manage variants without double asset flooding

Each output receives a unique variant related to the master: channel, aspect ratio, crop, export size and modification time. Repeated commits are not allowed to copy the same file to the library multiple times.

The publishing selection only shows qualified variants for the target channel. A Pinterest crop doesn't automatically appear as a TikTok cover just because they're both vertical.

Quality check before release

The visual approval takes place in a realistic preview and on at least a narrow mobile width.

  • Product matches the linked record
  • no made-up details or prices
  • Detail shows the core motif completely
  • Text is within the safe area
  • Contrast and readability are sufficient
  • File loads without internal storage URL in visible text
  • Thumbnail or poster is available
  • Aspect ratio corresponds to the target channel

FAQ

Do I need a separate photo shoot for each channel?

Not necessarily. A high-quality master asset can provide multiple variants if the composition and resolution allow enough flexibility. Some usage situations still require their own motif.

Can AI change the product image?

Design adjustments are possible as long as product features and claims remain true. Significant changes should be recognizable as a generated representation and released separately.
